Ok, I think I misunderstood you.
Thanks

Could someone with a remora or urchin snap a photo of the crimped end of their injector with a coin or something for size comparison? I wanted to see the difference between remora and ev injectors.

Thanks folks.

hmm, kind of hard to snap a pic of the remora pro injector as its enclosed in the tube, Only way to get to it, is to snap the acrylic and make it useless, that i will not do to that piece of equipment. The seaclone sure. ive already shredded that garbage.

Frank mine used to send micro bubbles into the sump and bad back to the tank. I have a filter sock to take care of the problem. Mark

Thanks to all that recommended the Eheim 1262. I put one on my EV150, replacing a Mag 7. I was worried it might be too much flow, but it is not. The difference is night and day! Been running a little over an hour, and I'd say I've got an inch of skimmate already! It's really kicking butt! What a difference!!!

i still kind of ponder how much better the iwaki is, as they sey it is the best for th 180, and the ehiem a step under.. especially the difference there is going from the little mag to the eheim.
Of course, my system is gone now.
and even if the remora pro wasn't gone, yes its buried in there. You can slightly see it if under light through the little hole for the nylon screw. There's no way of seeing it under the tube.
unless you can somehow see through that smoke grey acrylic.

Well, I couldn't help myself, and I did this to my ev180.

Here is a shot of one days skimmate.

I'm still using the eheim 1260, and I have one third of the injector plugged to give me a stronger spray. I also have more pics of the mod process and a couple movies too.

Did you just clean it? If not, they will have short bouts where they shoot bubbles into the tank.

I see the line now. Have you seen a big improvement since you have done this?

I've only been running it for a day now and there is still much playing with it to do. No major improvements seen yet, but I know I'll be much happier with it now. Since running an ev400 on another tank, using the ev180 has been less fun than before, until now.

How did you get the black ring off the riser?

I cut it off by hand with a hack saw. I did this very carefully and very slowly. I then sanded both the riser, flange and tubing addition with 120, 220, and finally 320 sandpapers and a large flat piece of acrylic for a sanding block. I glued it all back together with weld-on 4.

The greatest advantage I feel this mod gives me, is that I can run more air and have no worries of overflow issues. If I were running a larger pump, I wouldn't be using a smaller injector. (Instead of looking at it like I'm running a clogged injector, I'm looking at it like I'm overdriving a smaller injector. This has improved performance for me much the same way as using large pumps through the 3/4 injector. I'll run it like it is for a while, but may at some future point clear out the injector and use the GenX PCX30 that's in my closet.

FWIW, the eheim 1262 would probably be perfect for this (as with regular ev180's and ev150's)

Hello folks.

I just wanted to update my results with the modification to my ev180.
I've removed the obstruction from the injector (although I was happy running it like that before the mod, I've found it to be counter productive afterwards because I had to open up the air valve so much the bubble size increased)
I'm now back to running it with the water line at the top of the box and a choked air valve. Surprisingly, the eheim 1260 is handling the job just fine. I am bringing the water line up with the skimmers gate valve.

I am probably not removing any more skimmate than an unaltered ev180, I'm just able to run/set it the way that I want it to work.

I apologize to everyone for being a PITA. I'll try to bite my lip a little more.

Captain, your comments are always appreciated.
It´s really nice to see how these skimmers perform in different situations, modifications.

How often do you folks have to clean out the riser tube etc.?

I find that it's such a PITA to clean it every week that I end up getting lazy. Does anyone have any tips to make that yucky part of reefkeeping easier?

-Nathan

Every 3-4 days. At least it only takes 5 minutes to clean the whole thing, cup, riser and all.

Ok, so i have a mag 5 powering my ev-120 and a mag 9.5 for my return on my 75g. In an effort to maximize my skimmer along w/ reducing heat and wasted energy on my mag 9.5 thats throttled way back im looking at buying a eheim 1260 to replace the skimmer pump and use the mag 5 as the return pump. Question is, am i gonna need a gate valve on the eheim pump going into the skimmer or is the general consensus now that it should be run wide open?? Would i also notice a temp drop goin from a mag 5 and 9.5 to a mag 5 and the eheim1260??

You should get a Small temp drop. You will get a lower noise output, and lower wattage.
Probably better production.. probably can get away without restricting between the pump and skimmer, just have to try and see.
