I have a question for those who have seen this tank in person. How long did you stand there and look at it? Hours?

For those of you who are not from NY, Riverhead is at the end of Long Island, NY. You may have heard of the Hamptons or Montauk Point which is on the Atlantic. Riverhead is on the other side on the sound.
As far as how long do you stand there...as long as you can until your family drags you away. Taking pictures helps. I also shot some video so I can watch it a million times at home. It's just spectacular. |

I actually went out there 2 months ago (I told the gf it was so we could go to the vineyards in the hamptons) But we stopped at Atlantis and the reef tank was incredible! I signed up for a behind the scenes tour they gave. They showed us everything else except the reeftank, but we did see their coral prop area and their fish breeding/QT area. For anyone around that area its well worth the drive!
And if I remember correctly, the owner is a member on this board as well as a member of the LI reefers club, I believe his first name is Joe. ( I could be wrong). |

There is a write up on this tank in Paletta's book Ultimate Marine Aquariums. I was amazed to read that this tank's total volume is only turned over slightly more than once per hour dispite the fact that 3,500 gallons of water are moved per minute. The other surprising fact is that there is less than one watt per gallon over the tank even though 18,000 watts of light are provided. I guess the "general" rules change when volume is concerned.
