2-250's or 1-400DE for 37*24*28 SPS tank?
Tank measurements are in the topic. The tank will house SPS, clams, and LPS. It will have a refugium/sump and some Tunze's. I'm wondering if one of the new 400w DE's will be enough lighting for a 28"H by 37"L SPS tank or would the 2-250's be a better choice for a three foot long tank? Assuming 2" sand bed and lighting 8" above the tank we're talking 34" from lighting to sandbed. If using the single 400w would the 14k aquaconnect bulbs provide enough par for good growth and coloration of SPS?
Thanks for the comments. |

I do not have a 400DE fixture but I do have a 36 in long tank. I have had, both one 250DE fixture on the tank and two. With only one fixture you are going to have shadows on the corners of the tank. My fixtures are 13in off the surface of the water. So at 9in I would say you would have a large amount of shaded area. With two there is an overlap in the middle and I use that area for really nice Acros. And as far as choose on bulbs I really like the Aquaconnect bulbs! I am not even running VHOs any more. I hope this helps.
MY Finally answer is: 2 250W DE with Aquaconnect bulbs! |
