bacterial infection?

can someone explain what causes bacterial infections.

for some odd reason my fish have been getting them lately and its a pain in the *** to take them out and treat them...

Poor water quality is one factor. If the fishes immune function is suppressed for any reason, this can contribute as well. What exactly are you noticing with your fish in terms of symptoms? What fish species?
Post your water parameters.

parasites can also leave wounds which lead to bacterial infections.

Bacterial infections are not usually a problem unless the water quality is poor, the bacteria count in the water is high, the fish are stressed, or they have wounds (parasites can cause them).
