Looks like alot of ditritus build up for 3 weeks you better siphon you tank more often. That is of course why you put stabord in there in the first place right?

Read the post to which the link refers, you will see the comment about live rock rubble. That's just bits and pieces of LR.

Why couldn't you just use acrylic? It's much cheaper, and you can get it in different colors also.

CD, I'm old, it's a brain fart. LOL The second week I was still re-arranging rocks. It took about two months.

Mike, the plastics shop told me acrylic would warp (could dry up and crack too) and some plastics have things in them you don't want to use.

Bomber, are you legally aquiring this coral or are you just stealing it? I have allways though it would be cool to have a caribbean reef, but just rics and gargonians get old after a while and I havent heard of a legal way to get stonys.

William what kind of question is that?

The corals I have, I have legally. Do a search, this has been discussed not only by me but also by the admins and mods of this site.

Come on...

I asked because i assumed this tank is in your home. Is that correct? Stealing from yourself is still stealing. I mean, the guys at seaworld can't just bring home a dolphin.

You say that these corals are legal, I believe you. I tryed searching, didnt find anything, can you point me in the right direction.

Corals taken from the wild for research are rarely returned (unless that is the focus of the project). The risk of introducing something is too great. Once the research is done the corals can either be killed and their skeletons saved or someone can take them home and put them in their reef. I have access to caribbean corals that people do research on here in CA. I haven't taken any leftovers from them but if I did I wouldn't consider it stealing.

William you're assuming a lot and there's a lot about this you don't know. You seem to be determined that I'm breaking the law, I'm not. I'm fully permited to do what I do.

Try searching some of the TOTM threads.

Barry summed it up.

However, you just left yourself open to a ton of emails wanting frags.

LOL People don't work on the most exciting corals out here which is why I haven't gone out of my way to get some. Plus, most people have no idea where Santa Barbara is.

I believe you, why would i ask if i wouldnt belive you if you said it was legal. I was just trying to explain why I asked in the first place since you acted like it was a stupid question.

BTW dolphins are great DSB stirrers.

Just out of curiosity, how viable would it be to farm these corals, so that they could be sold to the hobbyist? Assuming, of course, they grow in captivity just as well as stonies from other regions.

I think Eric is working on getting approval to have some experience reefers grow different species of wild Caribbean Acro's. Some of them grow like weeds while others don't. In any case, I think there would be way too much red tape involved with trying to culture them.

I figured there would be a bit of red tape.

It would be an interesting project, though. Since the coral is essentially impossible to take from the wild, it would be a good test as to the viability of turning a handful of wild corals into a common captive-bred species for the hobbyist.

Could be a good test run, should other reefs need to be made off-limits to collectors.

Finally cut some cardboard templates last night and ordered the boards this morning. No more sand for me. Because of my top had to get two pieces one was 17"W x 25"L the other was 17"W x 31"L with a 6" x 6" cut out in the top rght corner for the overflow. Pretty excited about this new setup.

Bomber thanks for sharing this great idea.
