Going to add sand....
Going to add about 100# of Arag-Live special grade reef sand to my 240 reef. I don't want to run into any type of cycle, so should I add one 20# bag every few days or is it safe to add it all at once?
Those that know me can go ahead and laugh......

Space it out. Like you said, 1 (20lb.) every couple of days.

Be careful not to get any scratches on that tank, I want it to be in perfect shape when I buy that one from you too. |

You'd think there was sand it it with how many scratches there are already.... what's a few more? Besides, a little elbow grease will buff them out.

WOW. Even I am shocked. I would go with a larger grain sand if I were you though. Especially for a BB lover. You like your flow too much and your just going to get frustrated. I would also add a little at a time.
Good to see you back and active on RC again. PS your tank will look so much better with sand. So when are you going to start collecting SPS again?

That stuff is pretty big. It's what I had in the Cadlights tank. If you know of a larger grain sand, then point me in that direction.
I still have a few surviving sps, but I'm going to stay away from adding anymore for awhile.

I got this in my 180 display and is constantly shifting and a little to fine for me.
Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand - 1 to 1.7 mm grain http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...26&pcatid=7326 I like the crushed coral sizes Grain size: 2.0 -5.5mm. this is what I have in my 90gal. I think I am going to eventualy mix the two in the 180gal. Are you getting the vortechs? the reason I ask is because the undertow will play a big role on what type of sand you should go with. But honestly I think you will be happier with a larger grain, especialy with a acrylic tank.

If you have your heart set on the sand look then you might be disapointed. But if you want to cover the bottom of your tank and keep it on the floor then this is the route I would suggest then. It is still small enough for my orange spotted gobies to gill through. You can always mix in sand later to smooth things out.

I'll probably go three bags of CC and two bags of special grade.

I talked to Mike yesterday. It is a no go on the sand in the main display of his reef tank. But he stated a possibility of a DSB in the sump.
