Thank you Jim.
Captive bred fish are a critical part of this hobby. Especially the Banggai Cardinals, which are magnificent little creatures. Any idea how to sex them? I have one from Mona from a long time ago, and I wouldn't want conflict if I got another baby. |

Jake, from what I've read, it's darn near impossible to sex them until the male has carried, then you can "mark" him as a male through his individual marking/s.
I was shocked that ~700,000 of this fish were bought in the 2000-2001 time period. That number has got to make a dent on the reef population and the food chain balance. Jim

Welll Jim hopefully with people like you there can be less of a dent to the reefs. I've always wanted 1 or 2 of those as well, how big do they get? And did you find new genes to breed with or are you still a few generations inbred?

Rene - I'm taking a break, going to visit the islands next month for 3 weeks. My breeding pair isn't pregnant right now, so if they decide to have babies while I'm out, it's survival of the fittest.
Last batch was in-tank, only 1 survived. (I'm keeping him!) Mike, they grow to about silver dollar size; no, not the new dollar coin that resembles a quarter, old "casino" model Unfortunately, I wasn't equipped to use Platapus' babies for breeding, so they went to JoeMack and Akacable. In a couple of months I should have tank space to try breeding another pair; this time it will not be siblings. The pair I have right now are from Undergrad of Davis. Jim
