Starphire glass

When i look at my corals from the top than through the glass, my colors are amazing. I mean they still look pretty good through the glass, but nothing like looking through the top.

Those with starphire glass, is it like looking through the top of the tank??

I have acrylic which is clearer than Starphire glass, and while it looks good through the pane, it is still better from the top. I think this is mostly due to the light coming from on top also, but also because you are not looking through anything.

Actually, I don't know why, but when I shine an LED flashlight on my corals from the side, they really get a much prettier coloration. I think it has to do with the reflection of the zooant..... algea. Kinda like a light directly on a road sign shines the brightest back toward the source.

I know it sounds funny, but when I use a flashlight with LEDs on my mushroom that is only marginally blue under normal lights, it really turns an electric blue. But when I move the flashlight to the top of the tank, the mushroom returns to it's normal coloration. That is unless I look at it from the top.

Sounds strange, but true!

Has a lot to do simply with the angle of incidence. Corals will always look brighter from the top. Acrylic and Starfire have a lower refractive index than normal glass and this will help increase the color some, but not completely. It will always look better, looking directly down. You should also notice that if you stand on your tip-toes and look down at the coral from more of angle, it will look brighter...
