Pink Spotted Watchman Goby

hey,

i just bought a watchman goby for my 55 gallon reef. I bought him yesterday, and he has been hanging out in caves and throughout the rockwork. However, he doesnt see the food i put in the tank. how should i coax him to come out and eat?

also, i wanted to buy a pistol shrimp. Which type would be good for this type of goby?

From what I have read, it is hit and miss if a pistol shrimp will pair with a watchman goby. All you can do is put the 2 in a tank and wait to see what will happen.

About a month after I bought a mated pair, I lost the goby due to carpet surfing. About a month later I bought a watchman goby and put it in my 90 gallon with the pistol shrimp. It took almost 6 months before the 2 found each other and now live in the same hole. FWIW I recently changed my return flow from one outlet to multiple outlets (same pump being used so about the same amount of flow) With this change, the watchman goby and mandarin were visable more (not hiding in the rockwork). The watchman found the shrimp shortly (next day) after this change.

When I first put the new goby into the tank, it didn't appear to eat or come out from under one rock for quite a while. Finally I would occasionally see it moving around. It didn't appear to be getting thinner so I assumed that it was finding enough to eat. Your goby could still be in this "shy" stage.
