Depends. Acrylic is lighter, more expensive, and easier to scratch. However the scratches can be sanded out, not easily but it's possible.
Some say acrylic also gives a clearer view.

Glass is heavier, much harder to scratch, cheaper, and you cannot remove the scratches.

I personally prefer glass, but for a larger tank if you can afford it I'd go acrylic.

i deffinatly prefer acrylic, i have had one to many glass tanks leak. with just a little care the whole scratching issue with acrylic is not as big as it is made out. also the scratches can be easily removed. i have removed a few over the years from underwater and out and it is no problem at all. i do also the fact that acrylic is much easier to drill and modify for custom plumbing and closed loops.

this is a never ending debate, you just have figure out what works best for you. good luck

[welcome]

I had an acrylic many years ago. They are clearer than glass but a lot more expensive.

They also tend to haze after time and then the glass is a better choice.

There is good and bad. I have a glass now mainly because it is less expensive. In the research that I have done, leaky glass tanks is not that big of a deal. I'm sure there are ones that have leaked but I also have heard of glass tanks being up for 10 years or more with no problems.

So check out the prices, look at both installed and running if you can and make your choice.

Glass tanks are very heavy so take this into account as well. If you live in an apartment or don't have a lot of strong friends for a large glass tank you may want to opt for acrylic.

Regards,

Pat
