anybody familiar with this?
Has anybody used "Detox 2?" I found it in my Drs. F&S catalog. It's a carbon/phosphate remover mix. It's touted as "the world's only ammonia AND phosphate remover in one." If it removes ammonia (stupid question warning!), will that starve the dentrifying bacteria in a tank? Anybody familiar? I would like to try it unless someone thinks it's not a good product. My phosphates are high and am battling a new cyano bloom. Need all the help I can get.

sounds "fishy" to me. i personally woudnt use it, i have found the less chemicals and products touch my tanks the better they do. for the phosphates its the source you need to track down, if you dont have an ro/di filter for your tap water then get one. you can look on ebay there a few nice ones that are very reasonable in the $$$ dept. some water changes with phosphate free water will lower them and should get rid of them completly after enough time and changes. as for the ammonia if you have any then the phosphates are the least of your worries. water changes, water changes, water changes (with RO/DI water and a quality salt mix). also with cyno adding more flow to the tank should help if not rid you of the problem.
dont fall for the trap of the wonder products that help the symptoms, but do nothing about the source of the problem. Good luck
