yea i have seen some of his work. i had some people send me pics. unbelivable he does do great work. I think im going to have to rethink my plan. i may have to go with a 8' tank to get it into the budget. I will have about $2000 to play with so im not sure what im going to do. The max width is 36" because of doorways. I dont want to go to tall because its going to be a reef tank and i really dont want to have to run 1000w mhs to reach the bottom of a deep tank. I hope i can get some good ideas here.

I went with glass and love it. If you do decide to go glass, shoot me an IM and I can tell you what not to get and who not to get it from. having gone through it, I can offer you some pointers that I wish I had when I ordered.

I can't remember if its acylic or glass, but I know one only comes in pieces 8' or shorter. I want to say its glass. Going to 8' might definately decrease your costs.

If you're working with a $2000 budget I don't think you will that size tank in either glass or acrylic IMO.

Sorry, I should have clarified. You can get them both, but glass has to be laminated together after a certain length. Same with acrlyic, two pieces have to be joined to make a longer peice. I can't remember the length. I really thought it was 8', but it might be 10'.

Acrylic and glass tanks are not cheap when you start getting into the 8' and above group. Material's alone will costs you well over $3000 if you want the tank to last a long time. You are looking at needing at least 1" thick acrylic for a 120"L tank.

Who ever maks your tank; if acrylic use Reynols Plymer for acrylic made in USA. http://www.reynoldspolymer.com They have standard sheets 6' x 15' 6" and theis sheets are from .9" to 4.5" thick. By the way a 448 gallon tank should not cost 6000. Even tough the tank is 10' it is only 2' in height, and height makes pressure, which means thicker walls. You are problbly looking at 1.5" thick material.

im going to go with a plywood tank. I have a guy at a lfs who has built several of these in the past to help me. It will be 120x34x34. Instead of 1 large glass pane in front we are going to go with 2 smaller ones so the tank will have better support in the middle. We will hopefully get started on it in the next month or so. For the total build it will be under $2000. That includes the stand hood tank the whole thing when i get started i will start a new thread and post a link here. Thanks for all the info you guys gave me.

hey, slandis3
you might want to check out monster tanks they are a forum like reef central dedicated to large tanks. I saw where their was a 1700 gallon shark, plywood tank. Gives full details of construction. Hope you can find some good information.

Talked to ATM, well yea the 6000 for the tank they said was ball park but I was wrong on the 1.5" thickness. With a .75" top and bottom the viewing pannels would only need to be 1".
