Timers

I am looking for some good timers. I keep frying all of them that I can find in stores. Are aquarium timers any better? Like from Icecap? Or, should I expect to fry those too. These 400w halides really seem to take a toll on timers..

I don't have any idea about aquarium related timers. You might check and see if there is a wattage max on the timers you are using.

I've always used the outdoor timers with covers on them. I pick them up from Ace, Home Depot, or Wal-Mart. They should be out now since they are often sold for Christmas lights.

Are you using the heavy duty appliance timers or the regular ones. The appliance timers handle a lot more wattage.

I've used timers marked heavy duty, but I don't know if they were appliance timers. The timers I am using right now are rated for 500w I think. They are hard wired into an electric box. I have never tried outdoor timers. That might just work!

My timers are outdoor 15 amp and they run my 400w M.H. fine.

look into the Intermatic Digitals, home depot sells them for 20 bucks. they are programmable by day, and have two outlets on them. Rated to 15 amps/1000 watts

Good question....I opened the instruction manual and it appears that both outlets are on the same timer. If they were seperate, I would want one of those.

They are not controlled separately

I got some from wm brinks is the brand and they handle 15A/ 1500W max and big lots has these cords extenders, they are 6 inches long and you can plug timers into power strips, now my timers dont take up 2 outlets, check into getting some
