hi im no expert but had trouble with carb hardness, the level was low and this made the calcium level go right up the corals started to die . since i ajusted the c/h the calcium went back to 400ppm if you keep your eye on the c/h then that might help.

My tank had indirect contact with paint which caused many of the hard corals to melt (softies and fish weren't affected).

no pests... no pennies/copper.. last time i checked nitrates where low..

might have double check hardness, but i havent down anything to change it.. what can cause that to go low?

What kind of corals?

The problem could range from the above mentioned causes to water chemistry deficiencies, inadequate flow, improper lighting, etc....

ALL!! zoos.. mushrooms... softies.. lps.. sps..

when i checked the water everything was fine... enough flow.. i have enough lighting..

driving me nuts!

i also have this kind of buld up of detritus on my rocks everywhere! its like dust, everytime i brush it off it goes away but when everything settles it builds up liek dust mites and forms liek hair algae. Whats that about?

It may sound crazy but I hope you're not using copper piping in your plumbing. I've heard anecdotes that it has been done.

maybe one of your test kits are off and your water parameters are not what you think they are. For example you could have a faulty refractometer and your specific gravity could be way off. You might want to find a way to independently verify all your tests.

didnt you say your salinity was 1.050 yesterday?

im no expert but I think thats your problem...

BINGO! a faulty digital hydrometer was at fault!. it said it was at 1.026 BUT a it was actually at 1.045!

Yikes!!! Get one of those floating glass hydrometers. They are easy to use, Never go out of calibration and the best part is they are only $5
