Clownfish behavior question

My female false perc has spent the past few hours laying in the anemone and sucking on its tentacles. I know its pretty normal behavior, but why is she doing it? My male is trying to get her in the mood, and he has spent most of the night rubbing all over a rock and doing his mating dance. I dont know if it has anything to do with her sucking on the anemone So if any of you can tell me why she is sucking on the anemone, Id really appreciate it

Does the rock happen to have orangeish looking spots on it? Is it possible she laid eggs and he's doing his swooshy thing.. or he's trying to tell her "Hey baby.. over here.. this is a good spot eh.." and then if you hear Barry White coming from the tank well..

Just put up a privacy screen

Your clowns could either spawn tomorrow or next week...it really depends.

That said, once they do spawn (yours seems like they are about too) they will be on a schedule. Clownfish in general can sense time very well. In example, they know when to go to sleep, to get up, to feed and to spawn. Once they do spawn, they will do it about 2-3 times per month. Your first spawn is never going to be a success. However, this allows you the time to go do research on how to rear the baby clownfish fry and setup rotifer cultures.

Good luck and keep us updated

BTW, clowns will even pick a certain time of the day or night to spawn too. It could happen in the morning, afternoon or soon as the lights go out.

Tagging along....

Our FM Oscilaris Clown has been pretty much living in our PLTA

Even though the LTA still hasn't anchored........

It's kinda funny the way she goes to her spot (before LTA) and nuzzles up to her mate - and then bolts back to the LTA.

It's really something to watch.

Guess there's a reason they call the Clowns

Well how much are you feeding your clowns? It takes a lot of energy for a female to make eggs thus they need lots of food. Also stay consistent with everything such as photoperiod, feedings and water changes. If you have certain patterns when you take care of your tank you clowns will most likely be more apt to spawn.

my 13 year old A. Frenatus has spawned twice introducing a young male about 6-8 months ago. The first clutch was eaten up quickly by my yellow tang and Nox pygmy angel. This time around both clowns are much more protective and I think I will be able to witness them hatch . Only problem is, she likes to lay them on the side of the tank, so I'm not going to have a chance to get them out just before they start hatching. When I have more time I will setup a nice little rearing station, but for now, I'll let her feed the tank once or twice a month...

loosbrew, they tend to hatch when the lights go off. Your going to need a flashlight!
