Pink birdnest turning green with purple polyps?

I received a pink birdsnest with a quite a few other corals when I bought a full tank with contents.

I broke into many pieces so i placed them in different parts of the tank with different conditions. The one placed down low with low light and low flow has started to change. It's pink is turning green and the polyps have started to take on a purple hue.

I have a real tubs, but this thing looks identical, any ideas? Could this be a real one also?

Same BN that I have... it will get more/less green pending how much light and how many nutrients you have in your tank. If you give it alot of light, it wont show much green..

I wish mine looked like the one in the first post. Mine is all pointed in one direction. Yay for 1 directional flow!

Ugh your lights aight strong enough to provide it enough energy to live. So it grew more zooanthliae. It's taking care of itself. Pink's need strong light. I-right.

I have one and it looked greenish for a while. In some tanks it is bright pink, in others more brown. The green pigment may be caused by nutrients as stated above. I also think spectrum of lighting may play into the color also. I predict that 14K-20K bulbs will cause this coral to lose it's pink color while a 10K bulb may help it to "pink" up. I can't confirm this until I change bulbs. Maybe someone can jump in here and debunk this theory or confirm it.

When I aquired this coral it was extremely pink under T5s. I gave out numerous frags of this coral to club members and it rarely looks similar in any one tank. Not only does the color look different but the growth form. In my tank it grows in a compact ball. In other tanks it grows straight up.

I have noticed similar behaviour in mine as well. It was pink under 10K and under 20K the polyps are now purple. Actually I kinda like the purple better

I have several and they morph all the time. I've had a colony for years that goes from DEEP purple to bright pink to the colors you have. My favorite was the deep purple. OTOH, I do hat the Tubs green that I got from WayneL that came in the greenest of any BN I've ever seen. However, it ended up turning an insane pink under 400W Radiums. Still, the Tubs one has the "ability" to get the most green which makes it unique. If that makes sense.

So 4 - 250w HQI 10k Halides plus 8 4ft overdriven T5's isnt enough light on a 240?!?

If it is a Tubs, it requires low light and low flow.

Yeah, I'd like to see that too. I keep hearing about this color but I have yet to find a picture of it including all the coral dealers/farmers like Atlantis, Frag Farmer, etc.

Do you have a pic David?

My Tubs is always a yellowish/reddish body with the purple polyps.

James

If anybody has them I would like to see some pics of true Tubs birdsnests.

What lighting are they under, placement in the tank and flow would be nice.

I have both this one and my real tubs about 24" down in my tank in very low flow.

Thanks Kurt,

Schweet!

What kind of lighting/depth/flow are those under if you have them or know?

Thanks,

James

Top picture is about 12" down under 400w XM20k.

The bottom picture was taken under 250w 14k Phoenix. However, I no longer have that bulb. The colony was dead center in the middle of the tank, between the halides, but also very high in the tank. So while it was high, it was between the halides not getting slammed with light. This thing has grown amazingly fast, going from a 2" frag to a 8" diameter colony in about 1.5 years.
