Acropora Feeding Video

I finally got a hold of a decent digital video camera to record some acro feeding. I'm new to this so please be patient with this first clip. I should've trimmed off the first minute of this because nothing really happens in the beginning.

There are two spots in the clip when this plana is grabbing the baby brine. The second part (towards the end of the clip) has the most action.

I love watching this, check it out ...

What brine shrimp are you using? I thought I heard on here to be careful about hatching your brine shrimp. I am not sure. I've got a kit myself. I was thinking of doing something like this, but I stayed away from it. Let me know. Good video. Very cool! Thank you.

I ran the tank for about a year without feeding anything (I was an advocate of fish poop only). They seem to feed real aggressively. Maybe it's because they're starved? Maybe it's because they would always feed like that? Who knows!

I got them from brine shrimp direct. I got all the info on where to buy and how to hatch from Melev's site. What do you mean by "careful"? If you mean potential for polluting tank, then that's not an issue when you strain out the brine. It takes more effort than frozen or other prepared foods (obviously), but I still think it's worth it.

I even still take the extra time to spot feed rather than broadcast. I'm sure I'll get tired of that at some point, but I think you get a better ratio of captured shrimp that way. Less waste. And it's kinda fun ... for people who suffer from sps addiction.

Yes

Thanks all for the comments. I get a kick out of watching the millie's because you can really see the reaction of the polyp with that long tentacle.

It's difficult to say because the ones that are aggressive on the feeding were always very good growers. I look at my tank 80 times a day and I find it hard to get a feel for growth unless you have photos to compare.

I think it's reasonable to assume that if a coral is taking in larger quantities of (solid/undisolved) food it's going to grow at least a little faster. I know it works that way for me!

I've been planning on feeding the oyster eggs for a while now, but I just haven't got around to getting them yet. I'm anxious to see if I can see the smaller polyp'd sps trapping those. Right now, I can't tell if the small ones are getting any brine because I just can't see them.

I'll try to get some video of that later if it's successful.

Any chance you can take another video close up? I would love to see what is happening with one of the polyps when a shrimp is snagged.

So dead brine get more response than DT's Oyster Eggs? That's suprising to me. Learn something new everyday. I was going to finally order some O.E.'s, but i'll just hold off on that.

I'll try, but I pretty much zoomed the camera in as tight as I could while it still autofocused. If I bring it in any closer it'll probably just blur. I borrowed the camera, so I don't know much about it's settings. I'll ask the owner if it has a macro setting, but I think that's unlikely.
