Schooling Chromis??
In an effort to color up my sps I am adding some fish to my 30 gal. I am having trouble choosing fish. I would like to add 3 or 4 and thought a school of Chromis would be nice. What is the general consensus on Chromis? Would they school in my 30 gal? Any common problems with this fish? I have one green mandarin in there now. The attraction I have with the Chromis is only in their schooling qualities, so if they want school I need other suggestions.

I have had many a chromis. They will school. I had mine in a 120 gallon and they schooled. (5 of them) 4 might be good....i would think three for your tank would be better. Here is the thing with those green guys. They eat all the time. you need to feed them multiple times a day. I fed mine only twice a day and i am pretty sure they were aways hungry. they also tend to get fiesty once they are well established. (many months) Usually my experience is that i can keep them for 1-2 years then they die off....and then i replenish with more. They will school, you just have to feed them constantly....they eat SO MUCH for a 5 dollar fish. Good luck!

Here's my experience with them. They will school in a larger system, not sure about a 30 gal though. You should try to keep an odd number they seem to do better then any even amount. I feed my fish once per week except for the tang and he gets seaweed daily. My chromis have been in the tank for 4 years and other than the few that have gone over the overflow none have died.
