Tunze DOC - 9005 vs. Deltec MCE-300
I'm looking at buying a skimmer for my tank this week and i've narrowed it down to these 2 skimmers. It has to be HOB, sump is not an option.
The one noticable difference between the two is that the deltec's main body is hung on the outside of the aquarium, where the tunze is placed right in the aquarium. If anyone has used either of these feedback would be greatly appreciated. |

is this for a 65g? if so, i'd highly suggest upgrading to the mce600.

I have had the MCE300 on my 28g JBJ Nano cube for two months, it is awesome! It pulls out dark skimmate and was pretty easy to dial in. It is probably the best hang on the back skimmer out there.

i feel that is past the limits of the 300, and is just the proper size for the MCE600. it is quite abit more expensive, but it's much more powerful too.

I have a 9010 on a 37 and it's an over priced POS...But don't take my word for it... if you go to Tunze on RC you'll see how much they fall apart

Id get the mce600 over the tunze 9005, but i'd get the bermuda rogue over both. The octo recirc 300f hot looks promising as well.

What he said ^^^ though if you MUST go with a deltec, then go with the mce600.

Depends if you are fine with a skimmer in the tank vs having to have one HOB. I don't think the MCE-300 is enough for you tank, so you're better off with the mce-600. But personally I'd buy the Tunze over the Deltec

Thanks for the info everyone. The 600 says its rated for heavily stocked 120 gallon tanks and 190 regularly stocked. I don't mind the price tag as long as it will skim well and it's not too overkill. What online dealers sell the bermuda? The one thing I like about the deltec is that the pump is inside the skimmer so it isn't an eyesore.

Yea, thats teh only bad thing about the rogue, but it'll will handle a larger tank than the mce600. too fishy sells them as well as frag farmer, who i belive still has them at 250bux. And skimmer ratings crack me up. The mce600 will most likely max out around 75-90g.

i dont think you'll like the bermuda then...they need a large pump that sits in tank
fwiw, we use the MCE600 on a 20g nano with very good results...we'll also be using it for a while on our 90g.

I checked out too fishy as well as frag farmer and they don't seem to ship to Canada. That's too bad, I could probably work around having a pump in the tank for half the price of an mce600. If they're the only supplier though it looks like i'm gonna be going with the 600.
