What does "Bump" mean in a message?
What purpose does it serve?

when someone post a question that goes unanswered, if you "bump" it...it goes back to the top of the newly posted questions so that more people will see it, and hopefully, will elicit a response from someone.

Just FYI, mods and TRC regularly check for unanswered threads and try to answer them or get someone who can. Adding a bump makes it look like the question has been answered already and takes it off the list of unanswered threads which can delay a real reply. Don't bump a thread until it's at least a few days old.
