Help ID these new clowns

Hi!

Can anyone help ID these new clowns? I bought them from my LFS but the employees there did not know what kind of clowns these were.

This is the smaller one:
I have no idea what type of clown...he has unusual markings.

This is the bigger one:
I think (S)he may be a Clarkii.

Thanks for the help!

The first one is a juvenile clarkii. They will have that white mark on the tail and as it matures it will slowly fade away. The second fish is also a clarkii. Great looking fish!

I'd have to disagree on the ID of the first one. my juvi clarkii didn't look a thing like that when I bought it. I got it about a year ago at just around 3/4". It looked just like the guy in the bottom shot and still does, just 3" now. Vicious as hell too.

could be a dusky tail, allard's or a sebae?

Not an A. Sebae. They don't have white on their caudal fins.

Thanks for everyone's input. The people at the LFS don't really know as much as they should. I was thinking both were Clarkii -- the smaller one being a juvenile that would grow up and change colors but I was not 100% confident in my assessment and took the risk.

Thanks!

IMO both are Clarkiis because the body just screams Clarkii.
You don't even see Allardis on wholesale lists; and it would be like striking the lottery to find an Allardi or a Sebae at a LFS.

Did I strike the lottery?!?!!?

Oh cool, I just liked the look of the little guy and there was NO OTHER fish in all the tanks that looked like him at all...I was inspecting ALL of the clowns and there were a lot.

Is he worth some dough??!?!?

LOL, I'd better take really good care of him!

slickchick, both of your clowns are A. clarkii.

Mr. Jingles, your comparison picture is a juvi. A. chrysogaster, not an allardi.

the first juvenile clown in the 2nd set of pictures that is said to be an Allardi, is actually a Chrysogaster I believe.

Mr. Jingles,

One of the best way to ID clownfish is to know the geographical origin, for certain.

Then to have personally seen many many specimens to get used to the multiple variations of each species.

When it comes down to an ID of the less common, expect some "discussion", especially in the clarkii complex.

For what it is worth, MarinaP would have nixed the 'gaster ID if it was incorrect, she has a colony of the little guys to compare the photo against

Net of the whole thing, take most of the ID's with a grain of salt, but there are about 20 folks or so running around this forum that you can count on to ID based on more then photos. btw: I am not one of them
