Help choosing sand bed type for 72G
Hello,
I need help choosing what type and depth of sand bed / substrate to use for my 72G that I am setting up. It will initially be a FOWLR, but I plan to add some softies and maybe an anemone eventually. I have done a search, but didnt find as much info as I thought I would. Although I found some good threads, some that came up were in excess of 90 pages, I just dont have the time to read all of them. So I hope you experts can shed a little light on this for me? After some reading here, Im pretty much convinced to avoid the DSB, but I hate the look of the bare bottom / starboard. I will be running a 20g sump / fuge also. I was thinking of adding about 1.5" of substrate. But I cannot decide between crushed coral and Aragonite sugar sand? What are the pros and cons to each type? Any insight you can provide is extremely appreciated. Thanks from a newbie hobbiest (although this is my second tank)! Last edited by lightngsvt; 08/18/2004 at 09:16 AM. |

Do the aragonite sand, crushed coral sucks. I am removing mine now and going bare bottom.

What makes the sugar sized araqgonite better the CC? Which will be better in the long run? Also, will a 1 - 1.5" sand have the same long term (negative) affects as a DSB would? Would I still need the same critters to keep it clean? Thanks!!
