Is a Starburst Polyp an SPS?

I'm new here, I just put my first one in my tank about 4 hours ago, and it still hasn't opened up. Does it usually take longer?

Starburst Polyp is not an SPS. Give it a few days to open up. IME they are slow to acclimate. I would also recommend not putting it on your main rock work but on a rock that is separated from most of your rocks. They can pack a potent punch to other corals and once they attach to your rock work can be almost impossible to remove. BTW they are considered a soft coral…

Okay, so it's a soft coral, thanks. Since I posted, one polyp has started Should I be worried about these guys taking over all of my rock work? Right now they are on their own rock which is not touching any other rock. Also, are they dangerous to other corals?

Thanks for your help!

Yes they will take over all of your rock work and yes they can be dangerous but only if they touch another coral. That is true for most coral thought. Generally you don't want corals to touch unless they are same species. There are always exceptions but it is better to be safe than sorry…
