And you shouldn't. That's not the right part.

I don't have a premium membership and or I'd too dumb to learn how to post a pic on rc.

E-mail me at jimmyj7090@aol.com and I'll send you pics of exactly how that float valve goes together and what parts you need (the two little collar things).

You should have 2 pieces that look like tapered washers. At least that's the best I can describe it. They go on the tube one right after the other and turned where the larger diameters are against each other. But honestly at this point I'd say throw your Jaco bulkhead away or return it/call customer service if pieces are missing and buy a JG fitting at Lowes. It doesn't have pieces you can lose.

I agree with that, but I don't think I've seen a JG fitting that will fit the tapered threads on the float valve?

i just signed up this site and the first subject i is reading is this weird "something" setup. lucky i am a bit experienced. if i knew nothing about reefkeeping, i would find this NASAish stuff incredibly cooOOOL.
and try to simulate the same "idea". (no pain no gain)
i recommend you to buy a redsea max and a chiller, and a proper skimmer (nano remora) and donate these glasses and plumbing to homeless people. just watch your fish thumbling-jumping..
never forget; it is "just" a hobby. dont let it be your nightmare.

Randall, that's rather disingenuous.

Lots of us are thinking it, we just aren't saying it to be polite. I'm not surprised a lurker registered to ask it.

With that setup it was extremely loose.
I have not tried it but it looks like I am missing this piece

I couldnt help but notice that your washer is backwards. The wedge side is supposed to face the water, not away from it.

That would also explain why it was so loose as well.

The wedge is supposed to close in under the adapter, and tighten up in order to eliminate the leaks in the line. As it is in that picture, it's just keeping the end from screwing on tight onto the adapter is all.

i would do the daily (5min) maintenance rather than 2 years of pure torture.
or just pay petshop guys 4 grand to build 100 gallon reef and pay monthly a fee of 200 bucks to take "good" care of my tank.
maybe you are just an ordinary masochist. then all my words are rubbish..
thanks for the advice.

Ps: if this system works well for 8 months, i am gonna sacrifice my son i swear.

little confused, will have to try it if I get home for the weekend. I tried with the setup with the hand. Also tried to turn the plastic washer/wedge in different directions. It was extremely loose and there was no way it was going to hold water.

Hmm, the discussion is getting kind of confusing here since it's not entirely clear who is refering to which picture.

FWIW, the pic of the fittings on the blue barrel is from me. With the fittings arranged as in that pic it works fine. Just for clarity I just reversed the colars and reassembled to see if I had it wrong in the first place. It leaked easily with the collars reversed.

They do go just like in the pic with the blue barrel.

JG, the part I sent you should be assembled in the correct order, as I sent it.

(I could have it backwards, but if I do, well... it leaks when assembled the other way?)

Sneaky? How so? I am new to this forum, and have been reading this very long and interesting thread. The question pop into my head, and I decided to ask that question, and in order to post, I have to register.

The question is relevant, and it's not out of bounds is it? Or is the reason behind all of this beyond asking?

Now back to my question.

well there were a number of posts that were identical to this and it started the thread way off track, mods stepped in and threatened account cancellations if any more "off topic" non contributory posts were put up..

Anyway
[welcome]
