Acro Bleaching?

I got a green acro 8 days ago. I noticed today the it is starting to turn white. It seems to be spreading fairly rapidly. I have another acro that is doing fine. Is there anything I can/should do for this one? I have 3x250 MH 10K lighting. It came from the same lighting. I would assume it is dying, any help would be appreciated.

might try lowering the coral. Even though the coral came from the same lighting, you don't know how old the bulbs were compared to yours.

Are the white areas dead, or just bleached tissue?

It looks to me like it's flaking.

if the flesh looks like it is peeling off then frag it or you might loose the whole colony

What causes this? It's a rather large colony.

RTN= rapid tissue necrosis ! Try not to let that tissue or slime get on any other corals. it can be infectious. I had RTN on a large milli colony. I took it out to break off the bad piece, when I put it back in I lost the whole colony.

However, I would take the advice above, FRAG IT !

Also, what is your alk.

Alk/KH is 7. I added baking soda to raise it tonight, but it still tests at 7. I will tomorrow morning before work and see. I may add more baking soda at that time.

Frag that thing pronto. The larger the colony, the touchier it is. You have now moved it to a different lighting angle and different flow patterns. That coral did not grow under those conditions and is probably virtually impossible for you to duplicate the conditions it grew in. Throw in some new water chemistry stress and the odds are huge that it is going to have some dieoff. Then if it starts dying and is too stressed, the whole colony will go down.

A single branch is more exposed to flow and light because it can't block itself like a large colony.

I've gotten several frags. One so far is starting to flake off. Time will tell for the others.
