Fish only filtration

What is a good media for a canister filter, on a Fish Only tank?

I have a 75g tank and a Fluval FX5 canister filter. I dont have the money for live rock, so i am going to buy as i go, until i can remove the filter. I just need some opinions on what to stock the fluval with.

I don't run any filter media like that, but I suspect any of the biological substrates are fine. Running carbon is also a good idea, in my opinion.

I run half ceramic noodles half carbon on my fowlr tank. I change thw carbon every two weeks and rinse out the noodles in some water change water while I'm in there.
I was running bio balls but I took them out coz everyone seems to hate them! To be honest I didn't have any issues with them but I can see them being a real pia to clean if they did get clogged up...

I can put just about any media in there. I have biomax right now and of course carbon. I was wondering if purigen, or a nitrate remover would alright, or just overkill.

There are three trays, as of now i will have fluval prefilter in the top, carbon in the middle, and biomax on the bottom.

I wouldn't bother with Purigen and carbon. I just run carbon. The nitrate remover likely won't help much because the volume required is large. Your current setup sounds fine to me.

Be careful about adding live rock. Any time live rock is taken out of water, there's a chance that some animals have died. The resulting decay (and possible toxin release) can kill a tank.
