Not all Walmart stores will carry pickling lime.

But if you have one near you, go to a Mexican grocery store and get a product called "Cal" it's the same thing as pickling lime and is used for making tortilla and you can probably find it near the spices or the tortilla aisle. It's a little bit more expensive than Mrs Wages but still cheaper than Kent's Kalkwasser mix.

It's usually with the canning stuff.. just ask an employee you are looking for mason jars, or their canning section.

Wow! I had no idea that it was that cheap! Compared to 8.99 for 3.5 oz(3X less in price for twice as much)!! Is there any kinda shelf life on this stuff? Cuz my tank is fairly small and has taken me almost a year just to go through over half of what I got now.

If kept cool and dry and airtight it should keep for a long long time. I keep mine in a sealable can after I open it.

I just picked up the only stuff I could find at Wallmart. It is by Ball and they call it Canning & Pickling SALT. It was like $1.50 for 40oz. Is this the same thing? The word SALT sure sounds different than LIME but I picked it up incase it was a "rose by another name." Just got off work, still a little metaphor happy.

Hmm... I'd be careful with that. Ball used to make pickling lime as well but I've never heard it called pickling SALT. Did you check the ingredients just to be sure?

Actually I googled it and found that canning & pickling salt is purified salt used to make the brine for pickling. So... I wouldn't use that if I were you.

Seriously though. Go check out a Mexican super market tomorrow. There's gotta be one near you somewhere.

Get "Cal" (I think that's Spanish for lime), it is sold in plastic bags and is labeled as "Cal"

this stuff is used to make corn tortilla apparently.

If you didn't find any yet, they have it here:

Roseville Tortilla Factory
113 Riverside
(916) 783-3311

They call it Cal as stated above. It is sold bulk for $1.89 a pound.
