Downsizing to a nano

Hi...I currently have a 25 gallon tank and I am downsizing to a 12 gallon deluxe JBJ nanocube. I was wondering if anyone can offer me any advice before my big change in two weeks. Is there anything extra I am going to need that does not come with the cube? I would also love to see some pictures of nano tanks you might have.

Thanks,

Jen

25g is a good size IMO. Why are you going down?

Well, I just want something a little bit smaller that doesn't take up that much space. I am fumigating the house and I am going to use the nano to transport my live stuff out of the house. I also might be moving out of town in a year or so....looking for convenience.

Change the stock pump to a Maxi Jet 600 or 900. Remove the filter media in the back chambers, and keep live rock rubble back there instead. I'm also not sure if your cardinals will be happy in that size tank...may want to find them a new home. The clown will be fine.

I would stay with the 25. Seriously. I went from a 24gal to 14 and I regret it. Specialy because you cant keep that many corals.

You might want to upgrade the stock lighting. There are a lot of DIY mods and custom guys like nanotuners(dotcom). I recommend looking for an used nano with the lighting and fan upgrades already, less fuss and cheaper because most people want to go bigger tanks. Probably want an automatic top off if you haven't used one in the past. Other than that, it should be a pretty easy transition since you are knowledgeable about the reef and cycling and nutrients.

Thanks for the ideas....I'm not going to keep the 25...it just isn't the best thing for me right now. I can always upgrade it later on in a couple of years.

Sugar, I was reading a few posts about taking out the filter media that it comes with...I definitely think I will do that. I also noticed that the cardinals need a larger tank, so now they are joining in my tank sale.

I have to look into some mods....not sure if I can handle a big job like that though!!!
