My fish are dropping like flies...
I'm about to call it quits because I'm so frustrated right now. In the last three weeks I have lost 6 fish.
I think it had something to do with a POS naso tang that I took off a buddies hands. I noticed he was on his way out with a cloudy eye and swimming crazy. I should have taken him out and offered him to the porcelain god but I thought he would pull through. Well... he didnt and that kicked everything off. Since then I have lost my mimic tang, chevron tang, both flasher wrasses, solar wrasse, and 1 dragon pipe. I wish I could snap my fingers and be out of the hobby..... |

Sorry to hear, bummer! It might be Flukes. You could try PraziPro.

MAAN that sucks!!
All those fish are really nice and expensive too, good luck on whatever you decide to do. |

Sounds like it was more likely an ammonia spike. Remember before all else fails, add a ton of fresh carbon.

Sorry to hear bro. Same thing happened here. Achilles tang (ich magnet) wiped out the all my fish except one clown. Went about 2 months before adding anymore fish.
I'd try waiting the same amount of time & doing large WC's inbetween to try to get most of whatever's in there, out.

OK, I just checked out your tank build thread and have concluded that this is a small loss when looking at how far you have come. That tank is very nice. After looking at all the planning and work that went into this tank, this was just a small error. Fix the problem and learn from your mistakes. We don't want anymore "I quit! Everything for sale" threads. Good luck and happy reefing.

Your amonia numbers were good on Nov 01:
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...light=FishyBiz Just Mg & Alkalinity was off. I agree with Greg, when something goes wrong dump in a bunch of GAC. My guess is Flukes from the Naso (cloudy eye and swimming crazy) or a really low pH (with Alk being low) that caused stress.

check your salinity. Might be off, I've heard of fish going crazy and then suddenly keeling over due to elevated salinity.

Thanks for the pick me up guys.
Its not so much about loosing the fish as it is feeling like your flushing money down the drain. Every time I turn around I need another $400 of this and that. I do agree. I need to check all levels and face the problem head on. |

If you recently added the naso tang and your ALk was as low as it was on Nov 1 that could have killed it and started a chain reaction in your system.

Ha!
The problem with that is I will always find a way to add $400 hear and there. Id probably end up stocking it to the brim whit aussi acans. But really, thanks for the compliments on the tank. Im actually using it to tide me over before I move. I plan to build something like the July TOTM in a new house. Hopefully my current tank will be a big learning curve for me. |

There is always some issue to fight with the tanks..
Ever since I lost my natural sunlight... ( *** hole ) neighbor remodeled his house and blocked 3 hrs of sunlight... I lost a lot of colors... Now I am fighting an algae problem, that happened when I let my RO filters get old... IT JUST WONT DIE!!!!! Good luck sorry for the rant. |

that's why I don't put expensive fish in the tank since I have no controll over them. If they got sick then I just have to pray that they can pull through. In a big reef tank it's so hard to catch the fish to treat them. I never buy any fish cost more than 40 since if I can not help them if they sick then I rather spend it on the corals atleast I can take them out and dip.....if I have to spend more than 40 they better be super hardy like my purple tang...:-)
