New 25g questions, and WTB cured LR/LS

Hey,
Well the nano forums isn't responding to me so I'll post it here : ). I bought this 25g custom nano off a local reefer, and I have some questions to make sure this setup will content me for 2+ years. I plan to keep easy SPS in the tank, some acros, procillapora, montis, etc. I have a 150w 10k MH, with two 18w atinics and 2 hydor Koralia 2, well...at least that's what I'm getting from Santa : )

Im also looking for CURED LR and LS filled with life, I'll spend the extra $ for rock and sand. I have a 250w 14k MH, bulb, and ballast for trade.

My questions are...

Skimmer: What skimmer should I get, that can fit in the bottom left section of the sump(section is 9 inches wide and 10 inches long), and is efficient? I was thinking about the ASM G mini skimmer...

Return: I was thinking about getting a rio 8HF for the return pump, the return section is the upper right section( section is 4 inches wide, and 7 inches long, ya, tight fit). But i am not very clear of how much GPH the pump would do at 3ft. Any other small pump suggestions?
The return problem is that the return nozzles are on the bottom of the tank, so if the pump turns off or something, I need a backup plan, so the main display's water wont drain all into the sump. Someone told me you need a check value on the return pump. Never seen one of these, could someone direct me to some info on that?

Cal/alk dosage.
What is the easiest most efficient way to dose alk and cal? Im done with kalk from my last setup ><

Here are some pictures(i hope they show up) of the tank.[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]
thanks!!

I run the mini G on a 55g with a 15g sump and it works really well and its stock. As far as the one way goes, you will need one with the outlets like that or you can extend them its up to you.

Welcome to RC.

I used an ASM mini G for my 30 gallon tank and so far so good. As fars as return, I used a Rio 10HF. This pump provides good circulation on the display. Cheaper compared to other brands and do the job in my opinion.

I would only use the returns you have the way they are for a closed loop, unless you make them a lot taller. Check valves will help, but are not 100% reliable, unless cleaned on a reguler basis. To do that you will need to have gate or ball valves between them and the tank. Marine depot carries check valves, ball and gate valves. Do not use there single union ball valves from MD, as they do not seal when you undo the union. The other ball valves work great.

I also have a few peices of live rock available.

yup, what laverda just said.

the most glaring boo-boo the last owner did was to place the return so low under the water.

I think you have a few options, either

1. Reduce the sump water super low to accommodate the main tank's water when power goes out

2. Drill another 1.5" drain in the main tank and hook that up with the return to do a closed-loop.

3. Raise the return so that it's not so low below water level.

4. Seal the return altogether.

Set-up looks clean though.

I think im going to put a ball valve on the return, and buy more loc line so the siphon will occur higher in the tank. Or I MIGHT, seal the returns and drill one return higher in the tank, but I'm not sure how to do that...Now my problem is still, what skimmer should i get?
