I run mine except just after I've feed phytoplankton or coral food. I don't see a reason to turn it off otherwise, and more filtration is usually good.

I have mine in my apartment and it seems a bit noisy that's all. It would be nice to turn it off of a few hours in the evening but I don't want to mess things up. I don't have fish yet, still cycling.

I don't think turning it off for a few hours will hurt anything, myself, unless some has a tank that is overstocked, which yours can't be. So I'd go for it.

I was reading through the tank of the month archives and August 2003 guy who has TONS of corals only runs his skimmer every other week. I don't see any problem with turning it off sometimes. In fact my 50 gallon tank will get its first skimmer on it this week after 9 months of mostly no problems (not related to water quality).

Shouldn't bother anything at all, lots of people here shut theirs down for example overnight because its just too noisy. I also plan to maybe shut my remora down at night when I get it if it happens to be noisy (on bedroom tank so...).

Just fine, You don't even really need a skimmer untill your tank is about 4 months old anyhow

I'm skeptical that there's any age limit to when a tank needs a skimmer.
I certainly agree that some tanks do without skimmers. If you have one, I'd say run it as much as is convenient. Having the skimmer providing aeration at night, when you might see the lowest oxygen levels, sounds good to me, but obviously, if it disturbed my sleeping, I'd turn it off.
