canopy: force air in or pull air out? cooling question...
just wondering what is more productive, push air in or pull air out?
i guess here are my options? 1. push air in along t5's and vent out the top 2. pull air out of top and vent from the sides unless there are better solutions, what do you guys think? thanks!!! |

I would think probably pulling air out the top, so that way it will actively remove the hot air, rather then passively and allow for hot air buildup!

Vent the air out, remember to have some holes somewhere so as the air pulled out can be replaced- this will reduce the labor on the fans. TinMan

I would do both. Have a fan pulling air in on one side and a fan pushing air out on the other side. This way youll get much better circulation.

hahaha, yea, i will have same size in and out holes... just wondering which way to put the fans, i actually think i might go 2 in and 2 out... although i wanted to just stick with 2 in and let the air just escape out...

Hi,use the fans to push the air in & allow the hot air to just vent out.When you use the fans to pull air out of the canopy,they are pulling very humid air.This can cause the fans to fail sooner,due to corrosion.HTH

What 45commando said..... helps keep moisture/corrosion off everything else too.

Yeah, don't think it is a good idea to pull air with a fan from a canopy. The humidity will definately shorten their lifespan. Also, it is no more efficient to pull air out than it is to push air in to ventilate.

Push air in from the sides and let it vent out the top. Make sure you have openings at least as large as the fans so there is no resistance to air flow. Drawing moist air out really shortens the fans life due to corrosion and build up of crud.
One fan in and one fan out only gives you ther CFM of one fan, you can stack 100 in a row but you are only moving what the first fan produces. |

IME the best method is to have the fans blow in, and allow the hot air to escape through vents.

cool... i am goign to order the huge 250mm fan... one for each side... shoudl be quiet and good...
