Older DSLR???

I am interested in getting a Digital SLR, but I don't want to break the bank all at once. I have been watching the Canol Digital Rebel 300d and they go about $300 used on Ebay with some basic extras (CF card, extra batteries, and sometimes an extra lens). I could pick up the canon 50mm lens, along with the kit lens and still be under $400 for the setup. Would this be a good beginer setup? My only concern is that the 6 mp sensor would be the limiting factor. I would plan to get better lenses in the future, and I am just looking for opinions on what to start with. I think I want to stay with canon, I like there products, and there seems to be plenty of support for their products. I currently use a s60 and it is a great point and shoot camera.

6 mp is more than enough to make good sized prints. Remember, it's the quality if pixels, not the quantity.

I haver a cannon Rebel 6.1 and the limiting factor of the camera is me. I think you will be very happy with that package and you can always upgrade the body and keep your lens if you chose too. HTH

Also, keep in mind that the sensor on a DSLR is gonna be about 2 times as big as the point and shoot.

The 300D is a great camera. Unless you want to really be cropping your photos and then doing big prints, you wont have a problem. The more important thing is good glass. The 50mm is a good start.

Ebay is Frustrating. Camera's that were going for $300 last week are going for $400 this week!!! At $400 I might as well get a XTi for $499 and get a 50mm for $80. It won't have a kit lens, but it will be new and have a waranty. I was also looking at the canon 28-105mm for a first lens (the $230 version). I might just wait out the storm (until after fathers day) and hope prices go back down.

Well, I ended up getting a Olympus 330 with two lenses, a CF card, bag, card reader and extra battery for a little over $500. It seems like the perfect camera for taking pictures of a reef tank. It comes with a 14-45 lens and a 28-15 lens, and I will probably pick up the 35mm prime lens and I should be good to go for any shot I need to take.
