People always say a fish needs to be in a certain size tank, well thats full grown, in my experience most fish several years to become full grown. I have the same mandarin as you in my 40breeder and its about 3/4 of an inch long...
I think you need to consider how large the fish is when you place him in a tank... granted it will/may grow, but thats not going to happen overnight. Not to mention most fish only grow to the size of their environment. I've seen cromis that are 3 inches long, mine have been in my tank for 2.5yrs and are still only 1inch. |

It looks like it got stung by the anenome from what I saw at daves. The clowns he has are little (less than 3/4") so I doubt they would be able to inflict that much damage let along drag a full grown mandarin. Guess we can wait and see I'm sure Dave will chime back in here at some point.
BTW the mandarin is eating and actively hunting. I don't beleive those are signs of a stressed fish.

I thought I read somewhere that anemones would try and eat mandarins, I'm voting for the mandy getting stung, they don't seem real bright and tend to swim everywhere, in a 30 gallon I could see this being an issue, the nem is only going to get bigger so one or the other should be moved down the line if it becomes an problem.

thanks everyone for the input. It doesnt seem like its getting any worse than what it was. He is still roaming around perfectly fine and eating the frozen regularly. My fuge has plenty of pods so i dont think that is the problem. I am starting to think that he was stung because like alot of you have pointed out, a 30 is perfectly fine for a mandarin with sufficient copepods (which i have). I dont believe he is stressed out because he is eating perfectly fine and is not acting any different than what he was before the white spot mysteriously appeared.
and don't think I didnt do my research before getting this little guy, trust me i have. I was overrun with pods, and my tank is well established. It's a non-aggressive tank and my params are perfect, so I dont see why he could be stressed out.
