Rots???

Does anyone have any rots? And Phyto? My GSM clownfish has laid their second nest and would like to try and raise the next nest.

I thought I would ask locally before I purchased from the net.

Thanks
Lori

I'd holler at Charlie (vcoo-something or another) and see what he fed his. He had great success at raising his clowns.

I PMd Vcoo71. It also has "MOVING ON" by his name. Has something happened to him.

Nah, it's said that for a long time. I am curious, though, as that is what the RC admins change it too when they boot someone. Don't ask me why I know that...

(or at least ask me privately )

VCoo17 is fine. If he was banned, it would actually be "Moved On"

OK. Thanks.

I went ahead and ordered some rots online from Seahoursesource.com.

Travis if I could get some phyto from you that would take care of it.

Thanks
Lori

Better yet. I'll trade you some Nannochloropsis for some Rotifers, start the culture, and trade some Rotifers for some different Phyto from you, Adam. JK. I would like to get some Rotifers later as well though. Which type did you get? L-Strain or S-Strain?

Adam has Nannochloropsis growing right now - http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...hreadid=953280

Later I'm sure we will get Tetraselmis and at least Tahitian Isochrysis (T-Iso). I know I will go at it alone if no one else will.

I plan to culture as many varieties of phyto as I can use. Tet and Iso are both high on the list. As well as rots, artemia, pods, and anything else I can think of in the time being. I like the idea of making my own frozen cubes as well, gotta be cheaper, and my ice cube trays are bigger than Hikarii, lol.

They should come in today. I have been waiting on them all day. My last batch of eggs just hatched last night so they should lay some more in about 4 or 5 more days. By the time they hatch I should have a large enough volume to share with whom ever wants them.

When I get a good density in a five gallon bucket I will let you know.

rots

I have plenty of rots if anyone needs any.

They are the L strain but the guy from seahorse.com said they are a small L strain.

I am running out of phyto. I didnot have enough going when I got my rots. They are eating the phyto as fast as I can get it going.

I plan on starting some phyto and rots soon. We should all mix it up so we can have differing cultures. What is the difference between the L and S rots? Is Nannochloropsis enough to feed them or do they need larger stuff too?

Lori, How do you plan on removing your hatchlings? Can you describe the tank system you are going to use on the hatchlings?

Russ

Russ, L Strain and S Strain are different species of Rotifers. L-Strain is smaller than S-Strain. Both will eat Nannochloropsis and do fine, but to use them as a nutritional bridge for larvae, it will lack DHA (or was it EPA?).

Also, I think that mixing different cultures of the same phytoplankton can cause mutations. I'll have to look that up though.

Travis, I don't mean mixing up cultures in one tank. I mean each of us raising different stuff so when we all offer each other some of what we have raised we have a larger mix of phyto types for our critters and more than one Rot species.
