I have used them when I had to go out of town and it was an easy thing to have my tank-sitter do. I don't think I'd use them full-time though just because some of the stuff in them could get out-of-balance and cause problems.
But then - I am sure there are people who use them exclusively who have no issues. Crystal

Since you're a premium member, do a search for them.
It's amazing how much time and effort is put into maintaining strict levels in our tanks and those little cubes just know exaxtly how fast to dissolve and supplement our tanks.

Did some google and it look like a good product to maintain calcium, even Bob Fenner did use it and recommand it on small tanks.
It might not be cost effective on large tank.
