Expanded Polystyrene a.k.a. the white Styrofoam. I make things using the stuff. It comes in big blocks 4' x 4' x 8'. I have big cnc machines that do the cutting. So if anyone needs sheets or blocks or a nice sign for their fish room, then let me know. The urchin doesn't do much. He hangs out in my sump and eats hair algae. I have a mixed tank so I can't put him in my main for fear that he may knock over an sps. But a softie tank or fowlr he would be a nice addition.

I have 5 of these urchins. They mostly just hang out on the rocks or back glass eating algae. They do also eat coralline, but I have 5 and haven't seen any big decline in coralline.

They will also "catch" chunks of frozen food or nori between their spines and move it down to their mouth. Cool to watch.

Is there an easy way to get those guys off of rocks? I have a pair that have decimated my coralline and I'd love to get rid of them.

I have one of these guys--he is great!! I hand feed him small chunks of krill and silversides, and also pieces of green algae sheets. I keep him well fed, so he stays off my coralline algae. He likes to hang out where the water return flow is. He likes the fast moving water I guess.....
