I would have him give you the $400 (or whatever seems a large amount to him) and when he delivers the car back to you in pristine condition, clean, and with a full tank of gas, he gets his deposit back. Make up a little contract and have him sign in.

If he has something at stake in it, he will be more careful.

But - if you say he is responsible, I'd loan him the car. It is SUCH a big deal to young men to have the excitement of showing off something cool to friends.

As a mom your first instinct is usually the right one, I would stick with your initial feeling. Even the most responsible teenager is still a teenager. Think about what you would have done at that age in a car like that. Being behind the wheel of a nice sportscar can make most adults do stupid things (myself included).

I think you should talk with the other parents about splitting the cost of a limo.

Unless you're having a super serious

the answer should be NO!!!

Rent a limo, go to Hertz, walk, hitchhike or take MARTA.

Take it from a former teenager... your 350Z is not safe in the hands of a testosterone crazed, craploads of horsepower under his foot, got to show off for my chick, driver.

Make him a gift for the $400.00 for his graduation and let him decide if he wants to spend it in renting a car.

Dont you have to be 25 to be insured in a Rental car?

I probably wouldnt loan out my car (actually a truck). I'd find a good excuse to why I needed it that night. Or claim it's broke down... Maybe make it come up "missing" that week.

But then again, Its just a car. Any decently built sportscar can handle a good runnin' for a night. You break it you buy it tho. I'd make that clear.

Maybe it would make the kids prom night, and help him get some.

I'd be inclined to do it, but it is a risk I'd only take so long as the seats are leather or similarly waterproof. Ya know? In case something...spills.

Heck no! He's got everything going for him; there's something about folks just about to get a huge break or move on to an exciting step up or advancement that just plain invites bad luck around just this scenario.

It's called "LIFE'S A FEMALE CANINE, THEN YOU DIE".

He needs to get used to it now... it'll save him a lot of headaches/heartaches in the future.
