Inline vs. ...

I was just wondering if anyone out there has used an inline heater, and how they compare to the usual submersibles?

i would have to say it depends on the product.if it was made well,i could see it working way more efficiant than a submersible heater.just my thoughts.

The one I was specifically looking at is made by Hydo, who also makes the submersibles... I've used their regular models before and have been pretty satisfied.

What's your setup? I don't see the need for one if you have a sump - just get a cheap submersible and dump it in there.

The only time I'd use one would be on something running a canister filter, like a planted FW tank or similar. Since most reef tanks have sumps and don't have canisters, I don't see why you'd want one.

Tank Set Up

The set up is and 75g brackish paulidarium, using a canister filter [better for the water fall] I just don't like the idea of having a heater directly in tank. It can form hot spots and it's not very asthetically pleasing
