I retro'd two Brinks outdoor security housings into pendants for my 150W halides. These have been working great for about 14 months now.

The reflectors suck but the light is pretty. I'm redoing it now with luminarcs.

you have any links to your build of these i like that idea and alot easier to deal with by the way they look

The ballasts are attached to the back of my stand. I installed a plug in between the ballast and the lamps to allow me to take the canopy completely off without having to remove the ballasts.

No build thread, sorry. Theres not much to it. Just get the fixtures, take out the Halogen bulb clip, install the MH bulb clip (which requires some trimming of the reflectors), drill a hole in the side of the base to allow the wires to come out.

These cost me $6 each from Wal-Mart. The plugs were made from old computer cords (16/3). Heres a few more pics to help you get a better view.

This is my LED light box made from spotlight ultra-bright white/blue LEDs I have 9 spotlights which are placed in 3 lines of 3 in the box, I can control each line with timers and switches. Each LED spotlight gives off 18000 LUX at around 8" away which obviously will be much less under water. The LEDs run on 240V but only use 1.2 Watts per spotlight, each circuit uses less than 2 amps. I still need to add a moonlight which I hope to add soon, this will be a neon PC cathode mounted to the back of the light box. The light box is made from plywood;

They are GU10 mains halogen type downlights (chrome fittings) but with cool white ultrabrite LED GU10 bulbs fitted instead of halogen, they are normally used in ceilings of kitchens or bathroms.

I too have those reflectors, I assume they are about as good/bad as the SE spiders? I have never seen any reviews on them.

Yep... I used the little night lights with the photocell switches on them along with some blue night light bulbs. They really add a cool effect to the tank at night.

I think I spent $6-7 bucks on them.

Thats what I thought you did. Great idea I definatly need to try it. is that just an extention cord you ran up to the canopy to plug them in?
