after a few hours the water was all milky
and my skimmer have gone mad
its making very wet skimmate
i have emptied the cup twice today
live stock seems to be fine
after around 8 hours the water is still milky
maybe by tomorrow water will be clear

Yeah, I've heard similar stories when doing the vodka method. I think it's a massive bacterial bloom or something like that which occurs.

Please keep us posted with some test results. This is an interesting experiment.

From what I have read you start dosing with 1ml per 150ml. Work up to 1ml per 100. Then once it clouds up you start draw back down to 1 per 150 again.

That's just from what I read. I used vodka after three weeks of tank cycling just to see if it sped it up. IT's a 180 and cycled in 6 weeks so nothing conclusive. Didn't have any livestock to worry about either.

Even with vodka dosing you still need to determine the source of the nitrates.

100ml I think is too much for 120 gallons.
Try to search here on reef central for dosing instructions. You must start
with little quantity, then increase until you will have a white film on the glass. Then you will need to dose 1/2 each day.

I overdosed some vodka a few months ago and the milky water dispensaries after 3 days.

Did you cure the live rock before you put it in? I see where you say its been like a year with those parameters so I would be suspect of the test kit. If your doing RO changes how old are your filters in the unit and do you have a TDS meter on it? 250+ is huge for the water changes being done so again try to get your hands on a new test kit. And I would stop doing the Vodka till you can learn more about it and save it for yourself, lol.

cool. good for you!

If it's back up to 250 tomorrow then you have a nitrate factory somewhere in that tank.
