reefkeepers don't have time for (human) friends. haha.

My wife thinks I'm a bit ridiculous, but every now and then I catch her looking at the tanks.

Almost all of my buddies think Im crazy once they start asking questions. Like thor said, when I tell them how much one coral or rock cost, and ask how many LBs I have they just look at me with huge eyes.

My buddies think my tank is cool. They don't think I'm crazy, I never tell them how much I spend on the tank.

Absolutely everyone I know thinks I'm nuts. Sometimes they don't admit it until they know I won't take serious offence

To most everyone I know, fish etc are just fish etc.

The most interest I've ever seen from friends is the algae magnet. It seems to catch everyone's attention and I don't think my small reef is all bad to look at

Good to know I'm not the only one.

Anyone who takes gallons of water, plugs in dozens of plugs in close proximity to it, while constantly sticking their hands in to the tank has got to be nuts!

Yep, mee too!

One of my friends was looking at my tank a few days go and I commented about wanting to change the Halide bulbs to a 20k but I had to wait till my wallet was in better shape. He said, "How much can a light bulb cost?" and when I told him how much and that I would need 2 of them, he nearly crapped!

He proceeded to ask how much the other stuff costs, so I gave him a quick breakdown. He was adding up in his head just the cost of the T5's and Haldies and told me I was nuts. He said, "dude, your lights cost more than my plasma tv!"

Oh well, I thought he was nuts for what he paid for a stupid TV! I still have my old 27" crt TV.

What I hate is when someone has to come over to fix something in my house. (I live on base housing) They end up not doing it and spent 2 hours asking me questions about my tank.

One of my neighbors is into Harleys; he's got three or four. Another likes restoring old hotrods. A friend of my daughter's family has a speedboat. One of my coworkers has a top-flight woodshop in the garage. I'm not even *near* crazy, at least not when using hobby cost as a benchmark. Sure, aquaria is an expensive hobby compared to say... knitting... but compared to other "boys and their toys" hobbies even the most hardcore of us are lightweights.

Most people like the fish in my tank the most, and wonder if the "plants" are real since they all look so "fake". Breaks my heart. Ingrates.

Mostly my family just thinks i'm "always at the fish store"! but they all think it's a cool hobby. I"m kind of an animal enthusiast and it's the only hobby that allows me to bring home a new pet every week without my husband throwing me out! I do think it's funny how obsessed they are with the floating mag! geesh. I also feed the anemone when I have company and they think that is the coolest. and of course I get to hear them name how many species I have from Finding Nemo "hey look, there's dorie!"

We're not crazy...they're the crazy ones!

Just remember that the government tracks our tanks and its parameters using satellites and spies. They got this technology from Area 51 and the aliens they captured. They can get samples of your DNA every time you reach into the tank! The military uses this DNA for top secret research.

Thats why I always use gloves when I work on my tank. I dont want them making an unauthorized clone of me to do who knows what!
