Unhappy Need ID - Seems to be Aptasia

I have some critters growing larger every day on two pieces of LR that came from the same LFS. I bought the rock about 5 months ago, but these critters started growing like crazy once I installed my homemade moonlights.

I think they may be aptasia, but I have no frame of reference, or experience to help me make a positive ID. I explored the message boards and have seen some posts on this, but there's lots of ambiguity. For instance I saw one post with a photo that contained a specimin just like mine - and it was ID'd (though not definatively) as "one of the good guys." Let me know what you think, because these guys are getting large and I want to take care of them now . . . . . . unless they aren't aptasia.

Thanks in advance!!!

Sure looks like a aptasia to me. Kill it before they spread.

After closer inspection one of my tanks. I've found about 4 more of these nasty creatures. I guess its time to start working on getting rid of them.

Just a guess looks more like majano. But could be aptasia.

I second the Majano anemone. Just as much of a pest so kill it either way.

Most definitely a nuisance anemone. Mix up some Kalk powder with RO/DI water to the consistancy of a thick paste, and use a syringe to inject the sucker in the mouth.

Try and make sure you cover the tops of them when they pull back into the rock. Turn your pumps off for a few minute so the paste sits on it for a while.

they seem to have already shriveled up and died, but the paste has gone to the bottom and is just sitting there. My question is, will it eventually just go away or do i need to take it out myself. I currently have no fish in there, b/c of the higher pH possibility, so when should i be able to put some fish in.

You can just turn on the normal circulation pumps that you have. You could siphon it out if you want. The ph shouldn't be a problem unless this is in a nano tank.
I take it, this is a new set-up?

I got the same on my Gulf LR. They've only produced two new ones in a couple of months, so I'm not going to do anything at this point. I've got about 7 of them at the most.
