I am in the process of planning my next tank and i wanted to build my own sump since it costs too much everywhere else.
I wanted to buy a regular tank a 30reg and just add my own baffles to it. (Glass tank and Acrylic separators) Question is What type of sealant is best for this job? Also, i know a lot of you guys have very good sump designs, please either post them on this site or e-mail them to me so I can get some ideas on how to set up my sump. thank you |

Hi Lakerfan,
I am not sure what you would use to secure the baffles because I have never built my own sump but here is a link to the DIY section here on RC. Hopefully this will help. Reef Central DIY section HTH Doug

You can use silicon to attach your acrylic to the inside of your tank/sump. Or you can construct it entirely out of glass as well.

Lakerfan,
I use silicon to fasten my dividers and baffles in place. I have just started building dual level sumps. I section off 1/4 to 1/3 of the sump with a divider 3/4 to 7/8 s of the tank height. This produce a deep area in the sump for heaters, probes etc. To reinforce this tall partition I use plastic corner protectors. They a thin clear plastic 90 angle. I sislicone this the partion and the tank walls. It gives a little more surface area to silicone on to than the 1/8" lexian divider. I bought an 8' strip at Walmart a year ago for about $2.00. Hope this helps.
