Can We Please Have A Stag Thread?
Lets start a Staghorn thread discussing different species of stags, thick and thin branching, as well as placement, lighting, water movement, where your colony/frag originated, where different staghorns grow on the reef, how yours color morphed depending on if it was a wild or maricultured colony, or a frag.
where you got yours... all that good stuff!!!

Here is my two stag, suppose to be the same species but i try to place one with high light, high flow. While the other at low light medium flow. I got both from Fliger
High light and flow, the coral growth thicker branch, with powder blue color... low light with medium flow, the coral growth thinner branching, with light green color tip...

A few other older threads:
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...+me+your+Stags http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...+me+your+Stags I remembered these because Leonardo's Reef has one of the best stag tanks I have seen, but these threads have other great ones contained within them as well.

Hello, I also like staghorns very much.
This are a list of Acropora that can be concidered "staghorns" (don't know if there are more) Acropora Loisetteae Acropora gomezi Acropora Yongei Acropora Parilis Acropora Hoeksemai Acropora cervicornis Acropora Abrotanoides Acropora Nobilis Acropora Aspera Acropora Pulchra Acropora Copiosa Acropora abrolhosensis Acropora Formosa Acropora Microphthalma Acropora Robusta In general I think all Staghorns grow well under high light and medium/high flow conditions. I have 100+ turnover flow and 500Watt MH+100 Watt T5 on my 92 gallon, and the staghorns seems pretty happy. Leonardo

Heres a new question: What is everyones favourite staghorn? Mine is Acropora Abroltanoides... I did have a nice green/red one untill my tank got carbon poisoned... now, its brown and necrosed a little, its recovering, but its sad that it turned brown ... Ive got a new stag in my tank that I have got to ID... its cool, yellow and blue maricultured colony, thats got tons of barnicles imbedded inside the branches... really a neat piece!

On the package is 14.000 K but I think IRL they are more like 18.000 K. I like the blueish colour very much. But if you want crisp white, you have to seach for other ones.

This what it looks like now......as i lost almost everything except the large aspera to the top right and its coloring up very nice purple. The center stag dead the green slimmer to the left dead. Then everyting else just started to come back to life. So i have been taking it slow as the tank final got over its bacterail infection that is cuased be ading to much to fast and wild colonies do not help.
Michael Hey satgs are my fav.If anyone has some for trade or sale semd me a PM

I think you just upset the liverock per gallon average for other reefers. =)
Very nice tank Leonardo. I like your minimalist theme and the colors are wonderful. Curious, what's the name of the pink fish with the bug-eye on the right bottom there in the second picture above? |

Can we added
A. Elseyi placement: I tend to place stags toward the top with alot of room for growth. stags seem to have the fastest growth out of all the different types of acros and can take over other slower grows. water movement: because of their fast growth I feel that a large stag can detract water movement from slower growers. A high turn over rate might be best if you are to have alot in your tank. With that said I love stags and here is one of my fav. |

Dejavu, that's an awesome coral, very nice.
Scissorhand, that fish is a Soldierfish, Myripristis Jacobus. I had 6 of them. I sold them not long after I took these pictures; They became too big and started to eat my shrimps and tried to eat my Apogons Very beautiful fish though. Leonardo
