Loud Overflow

I got a new HOB overflow from LIFE REEF, and just wondered if there was anything i can do to quite down the overflow inside the tank. I got the auto silencer for the outerbox, but thats not the problem. The inside box when its "overflowing" sounds like a WATERFALL. What can i do. Can i add a sponge or something to absorb the water flowing in?

I think that's a common problem when the intake in the box is low, in your cause whereever the water line is in the box. I also would like to know how to reduce this noise in the box where waterfalls a few inches from the top

yeah, its caused by the waterline in the box being quite a bit lower than the lip of the overflow. But, its supposed to be lower, so i don't understand. This sound can't be normal.

The inside is making the noise? Do you have a pump pushing water against the inner box? That's the only time I had that problem, or maybe your return pump is too much.

ahh, maybe that is it. but seems like if my return pump was to much that it would just overflow the overflow box?

anyone else? Seeing as though it says it is up to 700gph, and i'm using a MAG 7, i don't think i need to throttle it back at all. Could the Vortech be creating so much surface agitation that its causing waves to crash into the overflow?

My vortech is not set that high, but it does agitate the surface a little bit.

that what it is, turn off the vortech and the noise should be gone. If is that, then I'm not sure how you are gonna deal with it, on one hand good flow and happy corals and on the other no so good flow but a happy wife.

I think a mag 7 is good becuase of the headloss.
