What can I use for a skinny sump?
I am thinking about setting up a 33L (48x12x12") and I have a standard AGA black pine stand which limits me to a sump with a width of 10-11". The only standard glass tank that would fit is a 10g which doesn't give me enough room for what I want to put in it. I am looking for suggestions where I could get something longer that would fit and I figured Nano reefers would know the most about smaller sumps.

A 15H and a 20 Extra High both have the 10g footprint.
Besides that maybe a custom sump is the best bet. |

Where is a good place to get a custom sump?

In my area some LFS's will do it. Maybe try to find an LFS that does Tank Maintance.
Checking out a local glass shop and asking if they could build one is another option. |

Or if you are handy build one.
A table saw, 1/4" to 3/8" (depending on height) cell cast acrylic, clamps, and #4 weld on will do the trick. Then you can make it as big or small as you want it. Some companies that deal in plastics will sometimes have scraps in their retail fronts that you can pick up for cheap. |

axia,
Any reason you chose the 33L rather than a standard 55? Footprint for the 55 is virtually the same: 48 x 13 (x18H). Also, a lot of tanks would fit in the stand of a 55, standard 20L/H, 29, etc.

I wanted to try a shallow tank....looks cool to me.
Those tanks DO NOT fit in a standard AGA stand, there is only 10.5" at the narrowest. The biggest standard glass tank that will fit is a 10g which I don't think would hold enough water when the return pump shuts off. |

There's a list of all AGA tanks and their dimensions at glasscages.com. You might look and see if there's something that will fit.

I would look around for a rubbermade tub that fits. You will have to do a little work to it, baffles and whatnot but you would be saving a couple hundred bucks.

My current sump is a rubbermaid trashcan that I found at walmart. They have isle after isle of different shapes and sizes. If you cant find the size you need there you could always search online. Unless you are looking at being able to look into the sump black is always the better choice as green algae doesnt like to grow on it.
