Very nice tankMike...
What do you have for a substrate? I tried noticing on the photos but the coraline algae was covering the bottom

He dosen't use zeovit. Just the mag flakes he uses in his calcium reactor to suplement mag.

Yours looks just like mine... nasty little bugger too! Nothing 'fairy' about males from this species.

And the 'Orange Fish' is a Bodianus bimaculatus, or Yellow Candy Hogfish.

Love the colors of all your critters and corals BTW... looks like you have a good start there...
The fairy wrasse was a freebie from a friend...there are many names for the Twin spot....and yellow candy is one of them...

The fairy wrasse is a sissy in my tank..But cool..

Thx's

I had a quick questions for you about your lighting. I am setting up my display and will have 3 - 400 watt 12K reeflux w/ CV ballast. I was pleasantly surprised when I read about your endorsement of this bulb ballast combo. I am anxious to get it rocking. I have also purchased 2 IC 660 to run 4 T5 10K and 4 VHO actinic. After reading that you have no additional supplemental lighting I am wondering if I should use the T5 and VHO on my set-up. My thought was to use these to basically simulate sunrise and sunset but if I dont need them then it would save on electricity. What are your thoughts on a sunrise.sunset VS what you are running with. Obviously MH only works great for you. Do you have moonlights? Once again thanks for your input and YOUR TANK ROCKS!!!!!!!!
It is all personal prefrence on the the T5's and VHO's to simulate dusk and dawn..I don't run any moon lights ...

thx's Mike

I'm also curious what type of sand bed you have (if any) and why you decided on that route.

Awesome tank and great write up!

Congrats. on TOTM bro. U trully deserved it.

As far as colors, 12k coralvue will give u whiplash over and over just by looking at the tank. I just add 2 of those last Feb together w/ the 10k and the result is fantastic.

Reef on !

You hit the nail rite on the head..You can learn a lot from cichlid behavior when it comes to housing Tangs. Have you ever seen a couple firemouths with a convict Tang? Same concepts apply. Get em in there together and you can get away with some interesting fish combinations. The ten foot tank really helps to acclimate the more aggressive Tangs later on. The purples and yellows were the first Tangs added all at the same time. Thanks for the kind words..

The skimmer came with a panword pump.....and boy was that skimmer loud...I don't use the Zeovit system only the mag chips...

Well done Mike!!!!
One of the most beautiful reefs I ever seen
Loved the space for the SPS and the natural look.....

I understood that you used Reef Octopus. For how long did you used it and what brought you to replace it. Making experiments with skimmers in such a beautiful reef is a bit risky?
Did you see some changes in the water parameters or changes in the corals? What is the main difference to your opinion between the Reef Octopus and the ORCA 250? I belive that your opinion is important due to the big price difference between these 2
