Has anyone added Furan-2 to their main tank? I have zoos that are affected that are growing on LR with SPS also growing on it. I have zoos on almost every LR and it is impractical for me to dip. What can I do?

And what is the consensus for the dosage? How many capsules per gallon/cup?

Stupid question - do you put the entire capsule of Furan-2 in the water and dissolve it or do you open the capsule and pour the contents into the water?

I cut them open and dump the stuff out.

One thing I've found in my farm is to use a small power head, or in a smaller tank a turkey baster, to blow off the zoas well at least once a week. My experience is that detritius that sits on the connecting tissue beneath the polyps develops fungus or bacterial problems if I don't do this on a regular basis. My guess is that the breakdown of food or waste on those areas may cause or at least contribute to the problem. Since starting this almost 2 years ago I've not had a single outbreak. HTH.

Hadn't seen the reply before. Thanks! Tried it by dumping out the capsule - lost some despite the treatment (or maybe because of the treatment?) but others pulled through. They might have been too far gone already and the stress of the treatment just pushed them over ...

sjfishguy, did you ever try dosing your entire tank? What were your results if you did.

No, never tried dosing the whole tank, however, one of the rocks I did pull out and dipped has some xenia on it, and the dip didnt seem to bother it, so who knows. I'm still hesistant about dosing the whole tank though.
Also, has anyone noticed Furan2 is different now than it was a month or two ago. Its a packet instead of a pill that turns the water yellow instead of green? I wonder if it will still work as well.

I also noticed that Furan 2 is now different. I am on my second day of treatment so I will let you all know how it goes. Also on a side note, I have been treating one of my rocks that has mushrooms on it and they seem totally fine. I think softies take it pretty well, SPS might be another story.

Furan - 2
I am unable to find Furan-2 in my local fish store, I also tried Petco and Petsmart and they do not have any. I need to treat my zoas asap.
It was suggested by the LFS that I might try Bi-Furan plus by Aquarium Solutions, the ingredients are Nitrafurazone, Furazolidone, sodium chloride, synthetic polymers and a chelating agent. The bottle states that each capful contains 9.7 g per 10 gallon of water. Has anyone used this in substitute for the Furan 2? thanks for any help in advance. Lori |

Don't have experience with that formulation but just to let you know, Marine Depot does carry Furan-2 if you can't find it locally.

Reading "The Cure" it says to match the temp, PH and salinity to the tank. So am I supposed to use fresh RO water or make Salt water ?

I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be freshwater, not saltwater. Not sure how you're supposed to match the salinity with freshwater ... might want to ignore that part.

I think you are suppose to use saltwater, dipping anything in freshwater for 20+ mins doesnt sound like a good idea to me, but maybe I doing it wrong. Also, the new Furan 2 doesn't seem to work as good as the old stuff. I just did the process on a newly infected colony and it didnt do anything. I can not get rid of these pox for the life of me. I have thrown some entire colonies out, others have been wiped out, and others are not infected at all. It is weird certain types of zoos have been fine for months and others right next to them wither away. I think this disease is more specific to some zoos than we think.
