has anyone had any luck with carnation coral? I heard Garf.org has found a solution to keep them alive and thriving in your system.

The carnation or dendronepthya(spelling?) can be kept....very tough specimen to keep though. Even advanced hobbyists cant keep it in most cases. There is a guy in my hometown that has a tank dedicated to carnations.
I think this is why he has success. He is very wealthy and has tons of tanks. I have heard they really like some nitrate rich tanks(within reason)...basically the guy chocks the tank full of phyto, and lots of other smaller micron food sources. I have even heard of people that put a little peice of bread in the water and let it rot for part of a day??? It sounds crazy but then you see their carnation tank and you are like DANGGGG! This is a very uninformed though here but it is the only things that i have heard about anyone who has kept them super succesfully and they had a species tank for them. |

He's a coral banded shrimp just happens to be one with a blue head. And no he just eats off the sand and rocks. Every now and again if one of the Percs get too close he will raise his claws and they just swim away.. |

Do you have a fuge? If you dont...add one it will give your CBB longevity...i noticed mine didnt do as well without the fuge and i had to feed him alot more making my tank messy.

I don't have a fuge but I do have that container with the shells in it on the second photo where there are many copepods.

What a beautiful tank. I too was leaning towards a mushroom tank. In the past I had many different type of mushrooms... but for some unknown reason, they have packed their fungus and hopped out of the tank. One day they were large and healthy... the next day... teeny tiny and/or gone. Is it because of having a puffer fish????? Again... your tank is beautiful.

Here's a few pics of my 'mixed' reef. I'm moving back to a predominately softy/anemone tank from 2 years of 'colored sticks'. I'll be keeping some stonies, but looking at going to mostly tree corals and nems. Tank is a 240 gallon cubish style with no top bracing, 4x4x2. Lighting is 2 48" Oceanlight pendants with dual 250 watt DE halides and dual T5 actinics.
